From our Correspondent
OKARA: Local traders Monday urged the government not to attach the district with the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Sahiwal.
Addressing a meeting, Okara Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI) president Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Shahid said there was a rumour that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) was planning to detach Okara from RTO Lahore to RTO Sahiwal.
He said mostly people of Okara find it easier to do trade of all kinds with offices situated at Lahore Metropolitan.
He said they have the facility of executing their other tasks as it was easy for them to visit Lahore from far-flung areas of Okara district owing to easy and direct rail and road links with it.
The OCCI president said going to Sahiwal just to resolve tax issues would be a burden on them in terms of time and money.
OCCI patron-in-chief Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad Iqbal urged the FBR authorities to take into account wishes of traders and other people before making any final decision in this regard.
Chaudhry Shafqat Rasool, Chaudhry Khalil-ur-Rehman, former OCCI presidents also spoke.
The OCCI house unanimously demanded the Prime Minister, the Federal Finance Minister, the chairman and members of the FBR withdraw the plan.
