A graceful ceremony was held Sunday at Wapda House to celebrate the Independence Day with national zeal.
Wapda Chairman Zafar Mahmood, chief guest of the ceremony, hoisted the national flag followed by the National Anthem that was sung by the students of Wapda schools in consonance with the main flag hoisting ceremony at Convention Centre, Islamabad.
Wapda member (Water) Muhammad Shoaib Iqbal, member (Power) Badrul Munir Murtiza, member (Finance) Anwar-ul-Haq, Managing Director (Administration) Rao Manzar Hayat, Wapda Secretary Amer Ahmad, renowned writer Asghar Nadeem Syed, poet Farhat Abbas Shah, Wapda senior officers and employees and Wapda Hydroelectric Labour Union (CBA) general secretary Khursheed Ahmed were present. The students of Wapda schools presented national songs in the ceremony. They enthralled the spectators with their speeches highlighting importance of freedom as well as responsibilities to safeguarding it. Wapda chairman lauded the performance of the students and teachers of Wapda schools and gave away prizes to them. He presented gifts to children of deceased Wapda employees. It is pertinent to mention that a huge national flag, especially prepared for the Independence Day measuring 100 feet x 40 feet and weighing 180 kilograms, has also been hung on Wapda House.
