ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday decided to hold the first phase of the local bodies election in Punjab and Sindh on October 12.
As per the schedule issued by the ECP, the nomination papers for the first phase of the local bodies elections will be received from August 28 to September 1 while the final lists will be displayed on September 19.
In the first phase, the elections will take place in 12 districts of Punjab that include Lodhran, Vehari, Okara, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat, Attock and Rawalpindi, whereas in Sindh’s first phase, the election will take place in 13 districts, including Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Larkana, Shikarpur and Qambar Shahdadkot.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on September 3-8 while the last date for filing appeals to returning officers for and against acceptance of nomination papers is September 12. The last date for deciding appeals by the election tribunals is September 17 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 18 and the issuance of revised list of candidates is September 19.
