Centuries of supply

By our correspondents

The government of Pakistan is utilising a great amount of time and resources on developing RLNG. More than three terminals for RLNG are planned, while officials are running from pillar to post, signing contracts for supply, transportation and sale of RLNG. The government has even allotted fixed percentages to PSO, SSGC and SNGPL for supplying RLNG. Ministry of Petroleum and Natural resources claim that the current natural gas supply sources will be depleted by 50% by 2028. That is the reason the government claims they are expediting RLNG supply to Pakistan. And that is the reason the government is utilising such a huge budget and providing incentives and loans to companies to fulfill the supply of RLNG.

But the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural resources have failed to highlight that Pakistan is ranked 29 in the world for gas reserves. The proven gas reserves are good to supply Pakistan with natural gas for 30 centuries – not years but centuries. The government needs to look into the affairs of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural resources, and determine on what basis the ministry pursued projects of importing RLNG from other countries.
