Heavy rains forecast for three days

LAHORE

As monsoon currents continued to enter the country, scattered rain was recorded in various city localities while Met office predicted heavy rains during the next three days. 

Met officials predicted more monsoon rains during the next three days (Wednesday-Friday) at a number of places in the country. They said a low pressure area persists over East Rajasthan (India) and it is likely to move slowly towards northwest direction during next 24 hours. Under the influence of this weather system, monsoon currents are penetrating in upper and central parts of Pakistan and the intensity of monsoon currents is likely to increase gradually. They warned that heavy downpour may trigger flash flooding, landslides and GLOF events in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir. The authorities concerned are advised to remain alert during the period, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday, they said. Met officials predicted rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir while at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, eastern Balochistan (Zhob, Kalat, Naseerabad divisions), Mirpurkhas, Sukkur divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rain was also recorded in other cities including Rawalpindi (Chaklala 46 mm, Shamsabad 29 mm), Jhelum (37 mm), Mangla (26 mm), Islamabad (ZP 19 mm, Golra 30 mm, Saidpur 25 mm, Bokra 10 mm), Gujranwala (12 mm), Gujrat (10 mm), Sialkot (AP 02 mm, City 01 mm), Islamkot (43 mm), Dhaheli and Nagerparker (20 mm), Chachro (09 mm), Chhor and Diplo (08 mm), Mithi (04 mm), Malamjabba (39 mm), Saidu Sharif (16 mm), Kalam (09 mm), Lasbella (10 mm), Rawalakot (10 mm), Kotli (02 mm) and Bunji (03 mm).

Tuesday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Dalbandin where mercury was recorded as 43°C while in Lahore maximum temperature was 34°C and humidity was 62 per cent.
