It’s time for another long serving envoy to say goodbye to Pakistan, the ambassador of Romania, Emilion Ion, so his colleagues, along with some of his Pakistani friends, gathered to bid him bon voyage at the invitation of the CEO, Serena Hotels and Mrs Aziz Boolani. The dinner was held at the hotel and was a well attended affair.

After a formal dinner with Serena specialties, it was time for speeches. In his address the host said the Romanian envoy had been a great supporter of Pakistani culture and often showcased music by artistes from all over the country at his residence. Having been here so long – seven and a half years – he was a well known entity and a familiar face at events who supported the community in its activities and will surely be missed by those who know him.

In his response, Ambassador Ion thanked his hosts for arranging the grand event in his honour and said he tried to promote the culture of Pakistan so his colleagues could get a glimpse of the real country and its people and not be influenced by the negativity they read in the papers or saw on their television screens. “I have travelled all over Pakistan and was always welcomed warmly wherever I went,” he said. “The hospitality is quite exceptional.” He went on to say that he had not been to the NA’s but hoped to return one day and visit this beautiful part of the country. “I will miss Pakistan very much,” he said and concluded by thanking the guests for attending the event and wished them ‘goodnight.’

In the end the guest of honour was presented mementos by the hosts and guests left their seats, interacting with each other for a while before departing for home.
