Special teams made to check decanting in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: DCO Dr Ehtisham Anwar Mehr has said that five special inspection and supervisory teams have been made in five tehsils of the district to check decanting.

He said this while presiding over a high level meeting held to review arrangements to check decanting here on Wednesday. The DCO said that the Civil Defence Department’s performance was not satisfactory enough to control decanting, which was a highly dangerous activity. He said that Section 144 had been imposed in the district to control this activity. He said that the special teams made would be headed by the concerned assistant commissioners. Earlier, the meeting was briefed that a special crackdown had already been launched to check this practice while 25 persons were arrested for doing this business besides lodging 26 FIRs against them.

DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES: MPA Muhammad Afzal Gil has asked the departments concerned to estimate cost of the proposed development schemes approved for the Bahawalpur district for the fiscal year 2016-17.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of the District Coordination Committee here on Wednesday. DCO Ehtisham Anwar Mehr, MPA Hasina Naz, ex-MPA Samiullah Ch, PMLN leader Mian Raza Hussain Pirzada and other officers also attended the meeting. DCO Ehtisham Anwar told the meeting that comprehensive planning was underway to devise a master plan for constructing sewerage system in all tehsils of the district. He said that a special programme had been devised to promote sports in all schools. He said that necessary sports gadgets and equipment were being provided to the schools. The DCO said that the schools Olympics would be held in November.

2 DRIVERS KILLED ON ROAD: Two drivers of mini trucks were killed in an accident near Chak 48, Fateh, on Wednesday.

Muhammad Aslam of Hasilpur was on his way on a truck when his vehicle collided with the truck of Manzoor Karim, a resident of Chichawatni, on Hasilpur-Chishtian Road. As a result, both drivers died on the spot.
