Teachers warn against schools privatisation
LAHORE
A new grand alliance of teachers “Punjab Teachers Council” has demanded the Punjab government immediately withdraw its notification to privatise public schools by handing over them to private sector through Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
The alliance demanded the government refrain from handing over public schools to Danish Schools and Centres of Excellence Authority. These demands were put forward in a joint meeting of different teachers associations which announced launching the movement under a joint platform—Punjab Teachers Council (PTC).
Speaking on the occasion, Rana Muhammad Arshad, Hafiz Ghulam Mohiuddin, Allah Bakhsh Qaisar and others said the Punjab government wanted to get rid of public schools by handing over these schools to private sector and NGOs. A meeting of PTC core committee would be held on August 11 to chalk out future plan of action with regard to teachers’ ongoing protest campaign.
