LANDIKOTAL: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Monday said that the installation of a gate at the Torkham border crossing would benefit both Pakistan and Afghanistan as citizens wanted to block the movement of terrorists who killed innocent people on both sides of the border.
He was speaking at a cheque distribution ceremony in Bazaar Zakhakhel in Landikotal tehsil, Khyber Agency. The governor distributed cheques of Rs8.1 million among 27 people whose near and dear ones died when the vehicle of a wedding party was washed away recently by flash floods in Sra Shaga area of Bazaar Zakhakhel.
He said he visited Zakhakhel on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and offered condolences to the bereaved families. The governor said that border management mechanism had been designed to keep a close watch on the people who crossed the Torkham border frequently.
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the sacrifices rendered by the Zakhakhel tribesmen for restoration of peace in Khyber Agency would not go waste.Regarding the recent inauguration of Landi Khani water supply scheme in Landikotal, the governor said the project would be completed in one year. He said the project would provide almost all residents of Landikotal clean drinking water at their doorsteps.
Additional Chief Secretary Fata Fida Wazir, Political Agent Khalid Mehmood and Member National Assembly Shahji Gul Afridi also spoke on the occasion. Fida Wazir said that several schemes worth Rs200 million would be launched in Bazaar Zakhakhel. He said a project of water supply would give water to 10,000 people and irrigate 1,600 acres land in Zakhakhel.
