DG Sindh Rangers says Karachi operation will continue till last terrorist killed;
attack on force’s check-post could be an attempt to sabotage CPEC project
LARKANA: A Sindh Rangers jawan embraced martyrdom and nine others were injured when some unknown militants attacked a check post here on Saturday morning.
According to BDS, the militants attacked the Rangers check post with a remote-controlled device and escaped.
Police said the explosive material installed on a bicycle parked near the check post exploded as a vehicle of the paramilitary force was passing by. Sepoy Shahid Sial embraced martyrdom on the spot.
The injured, including four Rangers personnel and nine civilians, were shifted to a nearby hospital. Police cordoned off the area following the attack and kicked off a search operation in the surrounding area during which nine suspects were arrested. No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, DG Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar Saturday said the operation against terrorists in Karachi will continue till elimination of last terrorist. General Bilal Akbar attended the funeral prayers of Sepoy Shahid Sial at the Rangers Headquarters here.
Talking to the media after attending the funeral prayers, Major General Bilal Akbar said terrorists would be chased and hunted in all parts of the country. To a question, he said terrorists used two bicycles to target the force. Similar explosive material was used in the past attacks as well, he added.
“The attack could be an attempt to sabotage China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, he added. Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the attack and sought a report. The incident took place four days after two gunmen opened fire on an army’s pick-up truck in Saddar area of Karachi claiming lives of Lance Naik Abdul Razzaq and Sepoy Khadim Hussain. —INP
