Smuggler killed in encounter with Rangers

OKARA: A smuggler was killed in an encounter with Rangers at Pakistan-India border near Allah Yaar Shaheed check post on Friday night.

The Rangers personnel were on routine patrolling along the border when they saw that three smugglers were entering Pakistan. To it, the Rangers personnel tried to arrest the smugglers but they opened fire on them. The Rangers also retaliated. As a result, one of the three smugglers was killed on the spot while the others fled. The Rangers also recovered 58 bottles of Indian wine, two pistols and some bottles of perfumes from the spot. The killed smuggler was later identified as Mazhar Wattoo alias Mazhri of Rehman Salloka village. Basirpur police have registered a case on the report of Rangers SI Muhammad Iqbal.

KILLER GETS DEATH: Additional Sessions Judge Gull Abbas on Saturday awarded death sentence and Rs 150,000 fine to Allah Ditta in a murder case. The court, however, acquitted co-accused Naseeran Bibi giving her the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution, the convict had killed Ikram of Chah Bhatti village over a marriage dispute.
