Six killed in rain-related incidents in Abbottabad, Dir
ABBOTTABAD/DIR: Six persons, including two brothers, were killed in rain-related incidents in Abbottabad and Dir on Wednesday.
Two brothers identified as Ihsanullah, 12, and Imranullah, 7, were killed while their mother sustained injuries when the roof of a house collapsed in the Abbottabad city.The victims reportedly belonged to the Mohmand Agency. The injured woman was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.
In another similar incident, one Noor Bibi, 15, was buried alive in a roof collapse incident in Lora.The rainwater caused damage to a large number of houses in Bilal Town, Hassan Town, PMA Kakul Road area and Sethi Masjid area.
The Abbottabad-Mansehra Road on the Karakoram Highway remained blocked for several hours and a large number of vehicles were stuck in the rainwater. Majority of the houses were damaged in cantonment, but no precautionary measures had been taken by the authorities to clear the drains, which caused damage to properties and houses.
The people were seen removing mud and rainwater from their houses on their own. The cantonment staff made no effort to help the residents to remove the rainwater from the streets and houses.
The Ayub Teaching Hospital was badly affected as rainwater entered the rooms of doctors and students at hostels.
The Out-Patient Department and wards were full of water.The car parking was looking like a swimming pool and patients faced severe hardship.Traffic in the city was jammed throughout the day as a number of vehicles went out of order on roads.
The traffic police seemed unable to address the miseries of the people and students reached homes at around 5pm. Meanwhile, two boys and a girl were washed away by a flooded stream in Wari subdivision of Upper Dir district after heavy rains on Wednesday morning, local people said.
Talha, Huzaifa, and Saad Khan were swept away when they were on way back home from the bazaar. The locals rescued Saad Khan after hectic efforts and recovered the bodies of the two others. The body of a girl was also recovered from another stream by the police officials of Sahibabad Police Station.
MINGORA: Rain turned weather pleasant in Swat district.Malam Jabba, Bahrain, Madyan, Marghuzar, Miandam, Kalam and other areas received rain fall. The locals and tourists came on roads and enjoyed rain.
