Power moves
The current energy mix in Pakistan is heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels, creating a burden on the national exchequer; and this is complimented by a power shortfall that exceeds by 6000MW during peak time.
Pakistan’s geographic location offers tremendous potential to utilise solar and wind energy technologies. However, only 0.5 percent of the energy is harnessed through them. Both solar and wind sources can be set up in a short time and are relatively cheap as compared to other conventional sources of energy. Organisations such as Reon and many others are leveraging such renewable energy technologies to create utilities for businesses and industries. It is time the relevant authorities paid heed to ensuring an economically and ecologically secure nation.
