‘62,000 unemployed youths trained’

Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has claimed that under the Punjab Skills Growth Strategy-2018 Tevta has trained more than 62,000 unemployed youths in industry demand driven short courses across the province.
Addressing a meeting at Tevta Secretariat on Friday, Irfan Qaiser said the youths were trained in eight batches of three-month programmes and four batches of six-month duration short courses during academic session 2015-16. He said they were trained with the consultation of the industries concerned. There were 37 courses for boys, nine for girls while four courses were for both at more than 300 selected Tevta institutes across the province. He said the youths were given free demand driven training in 50 courses.
He said efforts were being made on the directions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to make the unemployed youth skillful persons without putting any financial burden on them. He said Rs 1,000 monthly stipend and free consumable material as well as books were provided to the trainees during their training period while the registration fee was paid to Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) by Tevta.
