RAWALPINDI. Supermodel Ayyan Ali was released on Thursday from the Adiala Jail in the money laundering case. The Special Banking Court Judge, Sabir Sultan, issued ‘Robkar’ after Ayyan Ali’s lawyers submitted her surety bonds. Four people, Muhammad Nawaz, Shaukat Bhatti, Tariq Mehmood and Muhammad Imran, gave sureties. After completion of all legal requirements, the court sent the ‘Robkar’ to the Adiala Jail.Ayyan Ali’s case made headlines for many months. Dozens of litigants and lawyers would come to the court premises on every hearing to have a glimpse of the model. The Pakistan Customs had filed an application with the trial court seeking registration of a fresh case against the supermodel for money laundering. The court had fixed July 27 to indict the model. According to sources, Ms Ali will either fly to Karachi or Islamabad to spend Eid. She has been provided with strict security over death threats. The supermodel was released from the jail after 122 days. She was arrested by the customs officials at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, on March 14 for carrying $500,000 in cash in her suitcase — above the legal limit that can be carried out of the country. She had filed two pleas seeking bail, but both were rejected. The third application was admitted and heard in the Lahore High Court. Ayyan’s attorney Sardar Latif Khosa said no bar had been placed on his client to travel abroad. A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Anwaarul Haq and comprising Justice Arshad Mahmood Tabassum took up the bail petition. The bench granted her bail against surety bonds of Rs500,000 each.
