CHITRAL: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali on Wednesday asked the government to construct protective spurs and embankments along the river to protect Kargin village near Mastuj town.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said that the government should construct embankments and protective spurs to save the village from floods. “It is the government responsibility to protect the agriculture land and village population,” he said, adding, that several houses had been washed away by Yarkhun River in the last two weeks while the government had not taken any steps.
He said that the government had provided few kilogram flours and few tents to the affected families. A small effort could turn the flow of river but the government lack of interest had put the lives of scores of people at stake, he regretted. He said that the affected people had taken shelter at a local school who would face difficulties after the reopening of the school.
