Flash floods sweep away eight heavy vehicles in Chitral

CHITRAL: Flashfloods in a seasonal stream on the Chitral side of the Lowari Tunnel swept away eight heavy vehicles of a Korean construction company working on the Lowari Tunnel project, sources said.

The flashfloods also damaged a portion of the Lowari Tunnel and the road and resulted in suspension of traffic.Locals said that heavy rain triggered the flashfloods in Ziarat Nala, a seasonal stream on the Chitral side of Lowari Tunnel, sweeping away eight vehicles of the Sambo construction company.

They said the floodwater also brought debris that blocked the road for traffic. They said it would take four to six days to remove the debris from the road and open it for traffic.

BANNU: A cabdriver drowned and three others sustained injuries as flashfloods in a seasonal stream washed away a taxicab in Domail area on Monday, the police said.

Heavy rain triggered the flashfloods in Farsh Khwar, a seasonal stream, in Patolkhel area. The gushing water swept away a cab in Patolkhel area. As a result, they said the cabdriver identified as Usman Gul drowned.

Locals said three other persons travelling in the cab including Niaz, Ajmal and Muhammad Nawaz also sustained injuries in the incident.

The injured were rescued and shifted to the Khalifa Gul Nawaz Memorial Teaching Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Rainwater entered shops, offices and houses due to faulty drainage system as rain continued to lash parts of the district for the third consecutive day.

The rainwater accumulated in streets and various bazaars due to the clogged drains. The grid road, office of the district police officer, PTCL office and various bazaars were presenting the look of ponds, due to which the people faced immense hardships.

MINOGRA: Widespread rains coupled with gusty winds turned the weather pleasant in the Swat district.

The rain and cold gusty winds in Kalam, Malam Jabba, Marghzar, Bahrain, Madyan and other areas dropped the mercury and brought smiles on the faces of locals and tourists though it also caused some difficulties to people.

BISHAM: The district council directed the district administration to take necessary steps to cope with any emergency situation in case of likely floods after heavy monsoon downpour that lashed parts of the district.

District Nazim Shangla Niaz Ahmand Khan issued the directives during his visit to Pirkhana and other flood-affected areas. He assured the rain victims of the government support.

Earlier, flashfloods in Lodar Khwar, a seasonal stream, had destroyed several houses and swept away three powerhouses, four vehicles and caused other damage in parts of Pirkhana area.
