All-out efforts underway to facilitate every farmer: Noon

MULTAN: Punjab Parliamentary Secretary on Agriculture Rana Ijaz Ahmed Noon Saturday said agriculture sector uplift is the top priority of the government.

Addressing an awareness seminar organised by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture, Noon said comprehensive strategies and plans have been devised to uplift farmers and agriculture sector of the province and the government is striving hard to facilitate every farmer.

He said global agricultural productivity has been threatened by the climatic changes and Pakistan is also suffering from it, saying that climate smart agriculture would be the key to food security in coming years.

The future agricultural sustainability and food security has its roots in the construction of dams and in this regard Kalabagh Dam seems inevitable, he said.

MNSUA vice chancellor Prof Dr Asif Ali said Kisan Package is a timely and needful effort as it will help raise living standards of farmers. Former Speaker National Assembly Syed Fakhar Imam said support price should be announced to increase area under cotton as is the case with wheat.

He said cotton is on the verge of decline and tangible efforts are needed to restore its production potential in southern Punjab.

Punjab Director General Agriculture Extension Dr Anjum Ali, Malik Mazhar Abbas Raan (MPA), Dr Qurban Ali (DG, Field), Mumtaz Khan Manais (Member Syndicate, MNS-UAM), Engr Mansha Ali (Regional Project Director, PIPIP), and Dr Saghir Ahmad (Director, Cotton Research Institute, Faisalabad) also spoke.
