This refers to the article, ‘Education is the key’ (July 3) by Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. The CM has rightly identified the absence of linkages between academia and the industry. As far as the HEC is concerned, it seems to have strayed from its desired goal after the departure of Dr Attaur Rehman.
The HEC has failed to map out a viable strategic plan for establishing a strong link between academia and the industry. Besides, it has no concrete plan for the CPEC – a multibillion dollar economic project. Thousands of skilled labourers and graduates are leaving the country. The only reason is lack of industry where they can utilise their theoretical knowledge. It is high time we devised a multipronged strategy for establishing a linkage between industry and academia.
