K-Electric has clarified that monthly utility bills are generated as per meter reading.
In a statement issued on Friday, a KE spokesperson said, “Our technical staff ensures that its valued customers get electricity bills according to the units consumed. If a consumer has a query or complaint, he or she should visit the nearest IBC or register their complaint via 118.The power utility’s response came a day after Adviser to Federal Ombudsman Muhammad Yameen looked into complaints at Malir’s Deputy Commissioner Camp Office against excessive billing.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the adviser said that KE was “still not avoiding sending excessive bills to the poor” and the ombudsman office continued to receive dozens of applications against the power utility from consumers.
A citizen, Muhammad Ashraf, complained that KE officials raided his house and later handed him over a bill of Rs100,000 and ordered him to pay it instantly otherwise the electricity connection would be cut off.
Adviser Yameen voiced his displeasure over the incident and directed the KE representatives to avoid such acts. He told the applicant that his case was special and he should therefore move the common court of law for compensation.
Another applicant, Muhammad Tufail, said he never stole electricity, but still he received an excessive bill. The adviser provided instant justice by ordering a cut in the excessive bill. He also disposed of a number of other complaints regarding excessive billing.
