LAHORE : Twenty four new varieties of different crops have been approved which will help farmers increase yield of their crops.
Approval was given at the Punjab Seed Council (PSC) 47th meeting presided over by Provincial Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed at Agriculture House says a handout issued here on Saturday.
The approved varieties include seven varieties of wheat one non BT variety of cotton three of paddy one of sugarcane one of maize two of gram one of sesame one of mustard one of rapeseed three of tomato two of potato and one of bitter gourd.
Dr Farrukh said that cotton varieties with high yielding capacity would be introduced under the Punjab Chief Minister s agriculture package of Rs 100 billion.
He said that early sown cotton was arriving in the market and the farmers were getting more than Rs 3000 per maund which he added was commendable.
