MULTAN: The Multan Counter-Terrorism Department registered a murder case of right activist Zafar Iqbal Lund on Thursday.
The CTD officials said that the case was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s brother Munawar Iqbal. The complainant said that two youths came to the house of Zafar Lund and shot him dead on Wednesday. The CTD officials were investigating the murder on two aspects. The local influential tribes were not happy with his activities, including promotion of education, in the area, they added. The other factor was his campaign against Talibanisation on social media. Zafar Lund was also struggling for rehabilitation of the families displaced in result of the Taunsa Hydel project. The CTD officials were of the view that the incident was a target killing. Zafar Lund had been associated with The News as the Dera Ghazi Khan correspondent during 1996-97. He studied at the Karachi University and joined the Democratic Students Federation. After completing his education, he joined the Communist Party of Pakistan. He entered the Seraiki politics after fragmentation of the CCP into pieces. Later, he joined the Quami Inqilabi Party.
