ISLAMABAD: Six persons lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries when a passenger van collided head on with a coaster here on the Fateh Jang Road in Tarnol, police said.
The SSP (Traffic), Malik Matloob, confirmed the death toll while talking to media persons saying the coaster driver took his bus to the wrong side, causing a head-on collision between the bus and passenger van.
He said the coaster (LOK-9388) and van (JE-9709) collided with each other when the coaster went out of the driver’s control due to overspeeding. Soon after the accident, police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted the wounded persons and bodies to hospitals.
He said that three bodies were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital and were identified as drivers Javed, Abid and Aamir Nawaz. Three bodies shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), Rawalpindi, were of Rohan Khan, Kifayatullah and another unidentified person.
Ten wounded persons were taken to the PIMS Hospital and two were taken to the DHQ Hospital where two of them were stated to be in critical condition. Those admitted in the PIMS Hospital were identified as Akhtar Bibi, wife of Anwar Ali, Abid Mehboob, Mehboob Ahmed, Mir Nawaz Khan, Fahim Iqbal, Muhammad Zubair, Zameer Ahmed, Ibrar and Farooq.
