KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has approached the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), requesting extension in the deadline for filing the monthly income tax withholding statements and sales tax returns.
In a letter to the FBR chairman, KTBA President Rehan Hasan Jafri requested extension in the date to file monthly income tax withholding statement and the sales tax return for June 2016 till July 31, 2016 in order to facilitate the taxpayers for proper compliance.
“Business activities in the country remained closed due to the holiday for almost 10 working days, ie, from July 2, 2016 to July 10, whereas the last date to file the monthly income tax statement and monthly sales tax return are due on July 15 and July 18, 2016,” Jafri said.
The KTBA president said that the tax practitioners were left with quite a few working days to feed and put all the data entries in the monthly withholding statement and monthly sales tax return.
“[The] FBR should facilitate the taxpayers who are working on behalf of the [revenue board], as withholding agents and contributing a huge amount into the exchequer without any compensation as their legal obligation,” he added.
