Public prosecutors performance lauded
LAHORE
Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant and former Inspector General of Police Rana Maqbool Ahmad has said that Punjab Prosecution Department’s success rate for the current calendar year is 93 percent.
Out of total 37,280 contested cases, 34704 were won by the prosecution department and accused faced the music. From January 01 to May 31st this year, 418 accused were given death sentence, 459 were sentenced to life imprisonment, 140 were awarded imprisonment above seven years while 15,509 received imprisonment below seven years from the honourable courts.
Rana Maqbool was chairing the meeting of senior public prosecutors from Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur and Sheikhupura here on Wednesday. High profile cases and performance of the prosecution department was discussed in the meeting. Commenting on the performance report of the prosecution department, he praised the hard working prosecutors and stressed that dispensation of speedy justice to the oppressed was a great mission. He directed the public prosecutors to work with utmost devotion. He also said that latest gadgets were being distributed among the public prosecutors along with specialised training sessions for enhancing their skills. He said the prime minister of Pakistan had also lauded the improvement in the performance of Punjab Public Prosecution Department. He said the confidence of people upon the judicial system and law enforcement agencies was strengthened through conviction of criminals and terrorists. The performance of the prosecution department is evaluated by considering the number of contested cases in courts.
