11 killed in DI Khan incidents
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Eleven people, including a lawyer, were killed in separate incidents in the district during Eid holidays, official sources said on Friday.
In the first incident, unidentified persons shot dead a 35-year-old lawyer Syed Shahid Abbas Sherazi near the University Wensam College on the first day of the Eid.
The police sources said that Shahid along with his brothers was travelling to Maryali Town to celebrate Eid with their relatives. He stopped the car near a bakery near WensamCollege to purchase sweets for relatives. “Gunmen shot dead the lawyer when his brothers were in the bakery,” a police official said.
The deceased lawyer’s funeral prayer was held at the Kotli Imam Hussain.
The members of the Shia community staged a protest demonstration against the target killing of Shahid Abbas Sherazi. The protesters blocked the Dera-Bannu road for some time. The protest demonstrations were also held in other parts of the district. The police and district administration held talks with the Shia leaders.
The protesters leaders Allama Ramazan Tauquir, M Ijaz Hussain, Ali Mehdi and others presented six demands to the administration.
They demanded launching operation against target killers in the district and announcing compensation package for the bereaved families.
They set a 10-day deadline for fulfilling their demands. After the talks the protesters dispersed peacefully.
Two other tribesmen Noor Alam and Sherman were shot dead near Eidghah in Sherazi Dera on Thursday. The victims were resident of North Waziristan. Eight other persons were killed across the district in violence and traffic accidents.
