MARDAN: A man was killed and two people including a woman sustained injuries as the police failed to control festive firing on ‘Chand Raat’ in the district. Local sources said that majority of the police station failed to register FIRs.
In Takkar area of Takhtbhai tehsil, one Mushtaq was killed when a stray bullet hit him.
Separately, another man identified as Arshad, also a resident of Takkar area, got wounded in celebratory firing.
Similarly, a woman identified as Nargas Bibi, wife of Akbar Khan and resident of Maskeenabad in the limits of Hoti Police Station, sustained wounds after being hit by a stray bullet on ‘Chand Raat’.
Days before Eidul Fitr, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mohammad Tahir Khan and district police officer (DPO) Fasial Shahzad had held several meetings with the station house officers (SHOs) of all police stations in this regard.
The RPO had directed the police officials to leave no stone unturned to stop the festive firing in the jurisdiction of their respective police stations.
