LAHORE

PPP on Tuesday observed Black Day to condemn 1977 martial law in which the then Army Chief Zia ul Haq toppled the elected government of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

The PPP leaders in different statements termed July 5 a Black Day and dark chapter in the history of Pakistan which pushed the country into backwardness and deprived it of democracy.

A ceremony to condemn the July 5 martial law was held at Lahore Press Club in which senior PPP leaders including former MNA Ch Manzoor, Altaf Qureshi, Zahid Zulfiqar Khan, Sohail Malik and Barrister Amir Hassan participated.

The PPP leaders on the occasion stated that entire history of party leadership was replete with struggle for the restoration of democracy and empowerment of the masses. They stated the country was on the path of remarkable progress till the democratically elected government of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was dismissed and a dictator ruled the country for 11 years. They stated the dismissal of a democratically government in Pakistan opened a floodgate of troubles for Pakistan and the present terrorism faced by the country was the result of that dictatorial regime. The jialas reiterated the commitment to continue the mission of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

Meanwhile, Former National Assembly deputy speaker Faisal Karim Kundi has said the government has been destabilised by Panama Leaks and Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan is behaving like a bull in a China shop and destroying whatever is left of government. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Faisal Karim, Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Secretary Information, said the PPP workers take pride in the sacrifices of its leadership which has fought every despotic rule and dictators. Political pigmies are frightened since Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has become active in politics because they fear end of their political careers.
