Islamabad
A sharp increase in the prices of fruits and vegetables has been reported in Islamabad as Eidul Fitr draws closer.
Despite issuing price list for such goods, the administration has failed to clamp down on profiteering leaving people at the mercy of shopkeepers.
The profiteering is seen both at local markets and sabzi mandi.
The tomato is selling at Rs180 per kg against the pre-Ramazan price of Rs30 per kg, banana at Rs180 per dozen against Rs70, apple at Rs200 per kg against Rs120, lemon at Rs200 per kg against Rs120, green chillies at Rs120 per kg against Rs80, watermelon at Rs30 per kg against Rs20, and melon at Rs70 per kg against Rs30.
Other vegetables and fruits are also selling at higher rates.
The prices of dried fruits have also surged ahead of Eid, popularly known as ‘Meethi Eid’ due to preparation of sweet dishes.
The people criticised profiteers and said instead of giving relief to them, the shopkeepers stressed out customers by increasing prices at will.
They also came down hard on the administration especially price control committee over the situation.
