Eid shopping gains momentum in Gujranwala

c: As the Eid shopping is gaining momentum, encroachments are also on the rise in the city.

The vendors have set up their stalls of jewellery, cosmetics, shoes, watches, toys, garments, etc in front of the big shops while no action is being taken against them. Nowadays massive crowd could be seen at markets and shopping malls, buying clothes, shoes, henna, cosmetics, jewellery and bangles. Long queues are being witnessed at garments, bangles, jewellery shops, which have been illuminated with colourful lights.

On the other hand, prices of jewellery, clothes, shoes and edibles are skyrocketing. The customers say that several items have gone beyond their reach due to high prices. The customers have demanded the government set up the price control committees for non-food items to stop the trend of profiteering as the menace has considerably reduced their purchasing power. They have also demanded an anti-encroachment drive.

NINE POS HELD: Police have arrested nine proclaimed offenders and recovered illicit arms and drugs from them during a general hold-up against the criminals.

According to a press release issued by the city police officer, police parties established check points at different parts of the district and arrested nine proclaimed offenders and recovered four pistols, two rifles, 18 liter liquor and 400 gram charas from them. Meanwhile, 15 motorcycles were impounded when their owners failed to produce documents.
