ISLAMABAD: Confusion prevailed over the arrival of a Scotland Yard team in Pakistan. BBC Urdu reported the arrival of a severn-member team in Islamabad on Saturday. FIA sources, however, said a two-member investigation team from Scotland Yard will reach here on Monday and a five-member team will also visit Pakistan later to assist the British and Pakistani investigators. The objective of the Scotland Yard team is to question the three suspected killers of MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq.The three suspects detained in Pakistan are Mohsin Syed, Khalid Saeed and Moazzam Ali, who were arrested from Karachi and Quetta. The team will also hold meetings with the officials of the FIA and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.FIA officials probing the case will also brief the British team on the status of the investigations and key information gleaned from the suspected killers. The British authorities had written a letter to the Interior Ministry of Pakistan, seeking access to the suspected killers.The visit of Scotland Yard officials is a sequel to the understanding between Pakistan and British authorities to probe Dr. Imran Farooq’s murder case and bring it to its logical end. In order to avoid any misunderstanding in the probe, a translator will also assist the Scotland Yard team.Scotland Yard officials were assigned the task to jointly investigate Mohsin Syed and Khalid Saeed and on the basis of any key information from the two suspects, the joint investigative team of the FIA and Scotland Yard may also question Moazzam Ali. Sources said following investigations by the team, the British authorities may seek the custody of these suspects, but for that Pakistan will be formally requested.Sources revealed that the three suspected killers had been brought to Islamabad from Quetta and Karachi where the joint investigation team will probe them. Dr. Imran Farooq, a founding member of the MQM and a close aide to the MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain, was murdered
in 2010 outside his home in London.In April 2015, the Pakistani law enforcement agencies apprehended Moazzam Ali, the alleged mastermind of the murder, who facilitated the two alleged killers in their transportation and stay in the UK.The two other suspects were taken into custody by the FC a few weeks ago at the Pak-Afghan border area near Quetta.
