LB system to be strengthened: DCO

OKARA: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sucrat Aman Rana Saturday said the Punjab government was quite serious to strengthen local bodies system in the province.
Addressing a meeting of the local government representatives of the district at Arts Council hall, the DCO said petitions filed by the opposition and certain individuals in the Lahore High Court are main hurdle in empowering the LB system.
He said after the decision of the petitions the LB system would be imposed in the province fully.
DPO Muhammad Faisal Rana was also present. The DCO said funds had been allocated in the budget for LB system and the LB representatives would be paid remuneration.
Several LB representatives, including Rai Muhammad Shafi Kharal advocate, Rao Muhammad Ashraf advocate, Muhammad Afzal Wattoo advocate, chairmen of UCs also addressed the meeting and threw light on the problems and difficulties faced by the people in their constituencies.
The DCO said fortnightly meetings would be held with UC chairmen. Two resolutions were also passed on the occasion.
1,325 KG HASHISH RECOVERED: Police recovered 1,325 kilogramme Hashish from two drug peddlers.
On a tip-off the Sadr Renala Khurd police arrested Nazir of village 13/1AL with 5 kg Hashish.
The same police arrested Zahid of village 1/1L with 1,220 kg hashish. Cases were registered against the drug peddlers.
