‘Govt ready to transfer power to LG reps’
From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: The provincial government wants to transfer power to the newly-elected local government representatives but some under trial cases are a key hurdle to it.
This was said by ADLG Khizar Hayat while reading a message of CM Shahbaz Sharif in a convention held at Raza Hall here on Friday. He said that litigation was the major cause of delay in mayor and deputy mayors’ elections. He said that the litigation had also delayed elections on special seats. The PML-N believed that the local government institutions were the only source of serving people at the grassroots level, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, District Coordination Officer Nadir Chattha said that the Multan City District Government and the Local Government Department would provide funds for hiring buildings on rent for UC offices. The DCO assured the UC chairmen, deputy chairmen and general councillors that transfer of power would be started before Eid. As many as 68 UC chairmen, deputy chairmen and general councillors attended the convention.
