Two dacoits killed in Bahawalnagar ‘encounter’

Relatives stage demo against police

BAHAWALPUR: Two dacoits were killed in an alleged police encounter in Bahawalnagar Sadr police limits on Thursday morning.

The Bahawalnagar DPO office spokesman said that the two gangsters - M Yousaf and M Yaqoob - were in the custody of Macleod Gunj police. The police were taking them for recovery when their accomplices got them released. Police started chasing them and an encounter took place between the dacoits and the police at Mauza Bahadurka. As a result, the two dacoits were killed on the spot. The bodies were shifted to the Bahawalnagar DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s relatives staged a demonstration outside the DHQ Hospital and chanted slogans against police. They said that police had arrested their relatives M Yousaf and M Yaqoob in a case in May. They said that police called them for meeting with them on Wednesday evening. The next morning police informed them that they had been killed in an encounter.

IUB APPROVES BUDGET: The Islamia University Bahawalpur has approved Rs 3,191.447 million deficit budget for the fiscal year 2016/17.

The budget was approved in the Finance and Planning Committee meeting held at the Abbasia Campus. IUB Vice-Chancellor Dr Qaisar Mushtaq chaired the meeting. The committee estimated Rs 2,977.205 million as income from various sources with Rs 214 million deficit. Total development budget was estimated at Rs 965.801 million while the budget deficit will be met through good financial management, austerity measures and grants from the federal and provincial governments. Dean Faculty of Pharmacy Dr Mehmood Ahmad, Chairman Department of Seraiki Dr Javed Hassan Chandio, Additional Secretary Dr Shoaib Anwar, Section Officer Muhammad Rashid Zahoor and Treasurer Fakhar Bashir attended the meeting.
