Crime rate nosedives in Peshawar, claim police

PESHAWAR: The capital city police on Wednesday claimed that the cases against property have reduced to 358 during the first six months of the year compared to 505 during the same period last year.

Statistics suggested that the incidents of robberies had reduced from 49 to only 10 during the first six months of the year.

Motorcycle snatching incidents have reduced from 39 to 25 and motorcycle lifting came down from 62 to 45. Similarly, burglaries reduced from 73 to 56 and ordinary theft from 119 to 83. Besides, 64 cars were lifted in the
first half of the year against
63 last year while car snatching cases increased from 13 to 14.

As many as 247 accused in these cases were arrested compared to 398 during the corresponding period. Also, 85 properties were recovered compared to 137 during the first half of last year. The number of untraced cases is 13 compared to 117 last year.

“The regular combing operations have helped the police decrease the crime rate by 32 percent,” Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Abbas Majeed Marwat told The News. 

“A crackdown has been launched against proclaimed offenders and those residing illegally in provincial capital,” he added.

The official maintained that cops had been directed to beef up security in view of the coming Eidul Fitr.
