TANK: Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Fata is launching an intensive anti-polio campaign in Frontier Region Dera Ismail Khan, Frontier Region Tank and South Waziristan Agency following confirmation of a fresh polio case in Dera Ismail Khan.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) representative on polio eradication has confirmed to local media that a three-year-old girl, Ajwa, was latest victim of polio. Belonging to Garah Essa Khan Union Council in Daraban tehsil, Ajwa was admitted to the Children Ward of District Headquarters Hospital Dera Ismail Khan last week.
She expired during the course of pathological investigation. During the campaign, 111 mobile teams, 29 fixed teams, 15 transit teams and 375 community health workers will be administering anti-polio drops to 129,539 children, under the supervision and security provided by political agents, commissioner and law-enforcing agencies.
In 2016, the average percentage of target children covered during low transmission season-5 anti-polio campaigns in all over Fata has been maintained around 99 percent, with rate of refusal below 1 percent and polio cases zero, said an official communiqué.
In a recent Low Season Polio Eradication Initiative review meeting at Governor’s House, the governor had stressed the need for sustaining the current momentum and reaching out to every child for ultimate polio eradication.
