Eight cops held as murder accused escapes from lockup

GUJRANWALA: Civil Lines police arrested eight policemen after a murder accused succeeded to escape from the judicial lockup here on Saturday.
Accused Usman was involved in a murder and illicit arms case registered with Aroop police. On the day of the incident, the accused was brought to the session court by the district jail officials in a prisoners van for hearing. When recounting of the prisoners was done before departure from the session court to the jail, it was revealed that accused Usman was missing. On information SP City Nadeem Khokhar reached the spot and ordered arrest of eight police officials, who were appointed at the judicial lockup. Those arrested include Inspector Muhammad Akram, Constables Taqi Raza, Muhammad Akmal, Tahir Iqbal, Nasir Mehmood, Amir Shahzad, Shahid Iqbal and Naseem Akhtar. Civil Lines police have registered a case and started investigation.
MAN INJURES WIFE, SON: A man injured his wife and son over a domestic dispute at Ladhewala Warraich on Saturday.
Ahmad was quarrelling with his wife Gulnaz when their 17-year-old Hamid came there and tried to resolve the issue. It infuriated Ahmad and he allegedly shot and injured Gulnaz and Hamid. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
LABOURER DIES: A labourer was killed in a wall collapse at Awan Chowk.
Labourers Amanat Ali and Riaz were busy working when an under-construction wall collapsed. As a result, they were injured. The injured labourers were shifted to the DHQ Hospital where Amanat Ali died.
