Motorcycle rider killed by robbers in Shah Faisal Colony
As the lawlessness in Karachi continues unabated, a motorcyclist working for a ride hailing service lost his life at the hand of muggers on Saturday. He was the father of three children.
With the killing of 50-year-old Nadeem Ahmed, the number of people killed by robbers in the city since January has reached 34.
The incident on Saturday occurred near the Bagh-e-Korangi flyover in Shah Faisal Colony within the limits of the Sharafi Goth police station. Upon receiving the information, police and rescue workers reached the crime scene and transported the victim to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the motorcyclist was shot dead during a mugging attempt after he offered resistance. According to police and family, Ahmed was a motorcycle rider who also served as a caretaker of the mosque. He was travelling from North Karachi to Korangi when he was shot.
Upon completing legal formalities, police handed the body over to the victim's family. Speaking to the media at the hospital, his relatives expressed anger and grief, stating that the growing crime rate in the city had left the citizens unsafe. Ahmed’s nephew Arsalan said he had called his uncle at around 4am while he was on his way home, but a police officer answered the call.
The officer asked about his relation to the victim, and upon being informed that he was his nephew, the officer delivered the heartbreaking news that Ahmed had been shot. According to the slain man’s brother-in-law Majid Ali, the city had turned utterly lawless. He said mugging incidents frequently occurred on the Shah Faisal flyover, but there was no one to stop them.
Ali shared that Ahmed had visited their family home in North Karachi after a long time and was returning home late despite being advised not to travel so late. He described Ahmed as a sincere and religious man who was the Muezzin at a mosque in Korangi and drove his motorcycle for an online motorcycle service to support his family. Police have registered a case.
