CHITRAL: The four-day colourful Qaqlasht Festival kicked off in Upper Chitral district on Friday.
The extravaganza event organised by the provincial Culture Tourism Department under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Public Agenda would showcase colourful sports, traditional games, including polo, football, cricket, volleyball and cultural activities at the scenic tourist destination Qaqlasht in Upper Chitral
The festival was inaugurated by Upper Chitral Deputy Commissioner Haseebur Rehman Khan Khalil. The opening ceremony was attended by Upper Chitral district police officer, assistant commissioner (headquarters), additional assistant commissioner of Morkhow/Torkho, event committee members, people from various walks of life, professional athletes from different sports, and thousands of tourists and spectators.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Haseebur Rehman said that the provincial government and district administration of Upper Chitral were committed to promoting healthy activities. He emphasized that healthy activities foster healthy youth, who in turn represent their region and country in national and international sporting events.
The official added that sports were one of the most effective tools to combat drug abuse and other social evils. He said that Qaqlasht was a beautiful tourist destination in Upper Chitral, attracting both domestic and international tourists. “This not only boosts the local ecosystem but also expands business opportunities for the people of the region,” he added. The DC assured full support from the district administration to make this event a success.
The DPO, in his speech, emphasised maintaining law and order and urged the people to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting peace in Upper Chitral.
