Wedding ceremony: Over 310 hospitalised due to ‘food poisoning’ in Parachinar
PARACHINAR: More than 310 persons, including a large number of women and children, were hospitalised after consuming food at a wedding ceremony in the Shalozan area here on Friday.
According to District Health Officer (DHO), Kurram, Dr Qaiser Abbas, the participants of the wedding ceremony started experiencing severe symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea shortly after eating at the event. “The initial reports suggest a case of food poisoning. Over 200 people were brought to hospitals and an emergency has been declared at District Headquarters Hospital Parachinar and nearby health facilities,” he said.
Most of the victims are children and women, and medical teams have been mobilised to ensure timely treatment. Assistant Commissioner Parachinar, Imran Khalid, stated that the administration is doing everything possible to provide immediate care to the affected individuals.
Health officials said that they have collected food samples for laboratory testing and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the contamination. The authorities were also reviewing the food preparation and storage processes used during the wedding.
