Students’ achievements honoured at ceremony
LAHORE:Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society and Hailey College of Commerce jointly organised a special educational seminar and a ceremony to honour academic achievements of students of four BS degree programmes.
Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Vice-Chancellor Punjab University, presided over the ceremony, while MPA Mian Marghoob Ahmed, Vice-Chairman Lahore Development Authority, was the chief guest. Opening speech was given by Prof Dr Mubashir Munawar Khan, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Punjab University. The guests of honour included Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood, Ghulam Mustafa Qazi, Muhammad Owais, Mian Abuzar Shad, Aamir Saleem, Rana Ali Akbar, Muhammad Jamil, Tariqullah Sufi, Tariq Riaz, Raja Munawar and Dr Shahzeb Khan.
The vote of thanks was given by Prof Dr Hafiz Zafar Ahmed, Principal Hailey College of Commerce. The hosting duties were performed by Wasif Nagi (Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Chairman Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society (Jang Group). The ceremony celebrated 90 top-performing students securing first five positions in their respective semesters across BS Accounting & Finance, BS Accounting & Taxation, BS Commerce and BS E-Commerce programmes.The event was themed in alignment with United Nations’ initiative “World Going Green 2030”. Each High Achiever was presented with a sapling for plantation, symbolising a greener future. The students were awarded certificates of appreciation in recognition of their academic accomplishments.
The ceremony was held in collaboration with Pakistan’s leading professional accounting bodies — ICAP, ICMAP, ACCA and CIMA — which also presented giveaways to the awardees.
Ghulam Mustafa Qazi, President ICMAP, commended the initiative and introduced Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan as a pioneering body founded in 1951, currently boasting over 7,500 members in leadership roles across various sectors. Muhammad Awais, Vice-President ICAP, expressed pride in Hailey College being the only public sector institute in Pakistan to receive nine exemptions from ICAP. He praised the merit-based selection and talent of college’s students.
Rana Ali Akbar, Head of Business Development AICPA & CIMA Pakistan, spoke about the inclusiveness of their business accounting certification and congratulated the students on their achievements.
Aamir Saleem, Head of Business Development Central ACCA Pakistan, highlighted ACCA’s global outreach and commitment to professional excellence. He lauded the academic dedication of students of Hailey College.
Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Vice-Chairman Lahore Development Authority, appreciated the efforts of the college in shaping the future economic leaders of Pakistan.Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood, Pro-Vice-Chancellor University of Punjab, acknowledged the college’s legacy in producing outstanding professionals and leaders across various fields.
Prof Dr Hafiz Zafar Ahmad concluded the event. He told the gathering 170 students from BS Accounting & Finance programme had completed internships in reputable firms, with 130 securing post-internship jobs, while others pursuing further studies or entrepreneurial ventures.
He recognised the contributions of the internship team comprising Prof Khalid Mahmood Bajwa, Asif Ali (Librarian), Dr Muhammad Usman, Dr Saeed Ahmad Sabir, Dr Muhammad Akram and Dr Halima Tariq.The event concluded with a Sufiana Kalam followed by dinner.
