Odho orders effective action against vehicles violating traffic rules
Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho on Monday directed the officers to take indiscriminate and effective legal action against vehicles with fancy number plates, illegal emergency lights and tinted glasses.
He issued this directive while chairing a meeting at the Karachi Police Office where he took a briefing on crime prevention and traffic management. Officials said the meeting was attended by Karachi Range DIGs, traffic CIA and investigation DIGs and other senior officers.
The meeting took a detailed review of the increasing violations of traffic rules, road accidents, and their causes in the city. Additional IG Odho also directed the officers to intensify the public awareness campaign on traffic rules so as to create awareness among the citizens about law enforcement.
The current situation of street crime, robbery, theft and other serious crimes in Karachi was also reviewed in detail. The city’s top cop directed the officers to expedite intelligence-based operations against criminal elements to ensure the safety of the life and property of citizens. He said the safety of citizens and the establishment of law and order are among the top priorities, and police and all available resources will be utilized to achieve this goal.
Following directives from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, a province-wide crackdown on traffic law violations is currently underway, during which heavy and light vehicles have been impounded, and 25 have been recommended for cancellation of their registration.
The traffic police have also submitted a report on action taken against heavy vehicles. The chief minister emphasised the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property. He ordered firm action against motorcyclists not wearing helmets and the immediate issuance of fines to those using fancy number plates or tinted windows.
Shah further directed that the speed of commercial heavy vehicles within city limits be restricted to 30 km/h and called for a zero-tolerance policy against unfit and unregistered vehicles. The CM stated that these measures are essential to ensure public safety and that compliance with traffic regulations will be enforced at all costs.
