A large-scale crackdown was carried out by the traffic police in the early hours of Sunday after dumper trucks violated the traffic laws on Sharea Faisal. Police imposed fines and penalties on 142 dumper drivers, while 27 vehicles were impounded and a driver was arrested.
The crackdown followed a viral video that shows a dumper driver violating the traffic rules by speeding and attempting to flee from a traffic patrol car that tried to stop him. Despite the patrol’s efforts, the driver ignored the request to pull over and escaped.
A traffic police spokesperson mentioned that all the dumper associations were immediately instructed to hand over the dumper and its driver to police for legal action. However, Dumper Association President Liaquat Mehsud and other members initially requested time but later failed to deliver on their promise of handing over the driver and the dumper.
As a result, the traffic police initiated a wide-scale operation, leading to the issuing of challans and fines to 142 dumper drivers. Additionally, 27 dumpers were impounded and a driver was arrested under sections 99/113 of the 1965 Motor Vehicles Ordinance.
The spokesperson said that the crackdown would continue without interruption until the dumper and the driver are handed over to police, stressing that no one is above the law, and that everyone must comply with the country’s legal framework.
