I am writing to share my thoughts on the growing popularity of Ghibli-inspired art that has been circulating widely on social media platforms and within online art communities. However, the growing trend comes with its own set of side effects that are worth considering. The overwhelming popularity of Ghibli-inspired art risks stifling the creativity of new artists. While imitation is often a starting point for artistic exploration, an excessive focus on replicating established styles – especially one as iconic as Ghibli’s – can lead to a lack of innovation.
The accessibility of Ghibli-inspired art online could also pressure artists to conform to popular trends in order to succeed in an increasingly competitive digital space. As a result, rather than celebrating individuality, some artists may feel forced to create within the boundaries of an established aesthetic.
