SBCA officer arrested in illegal construction case in Liaquatabad
The Liaquatabad police on Saturday registered a case against several officers of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and arrested one official following a citizen’s complaint about illegal construction in the area.
According to the police, a local resident, Farhan, reported that a ground-plus-six-storey building was being illegally constructed adjacent to his house by a builder identified as Shamsheer. Farhan stated that he had submitted a complaint via WhatsApp to SBCA Deputy Director Khalid Memon regarding the unauthorized construction.
He further alleged that SBCA officials—including Director Jalees Siddiqui, Assistant Director Syed Samad, Building Inspectors Amir and Abbas, among others — were facilitating the illegal construction after allegedly receiving extortion money from the builder.
Based on the complaint, the police registered FIR No.m 104/25 under Sections 385, 386, 420, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relate to extortion, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.
The police confirmed the arrest of SBCA Assistant Director Syed Samad, son of Syed Mehmood, and said further investigations were underway. Raids were being conducted to apprehend the remaining officials and individuals allegedly involved in the extortion and illegal construction racket.
Officials stated that the arrested officer was currently being interrogated to determine the extent of the involvement of other SBCA personnel and private builders in facilitating unlawful construction activities across the city.
