‘Punjab athletes to be taught modern techniques in camp’
LAHORE : Expert coaches will teach modern techniques to Punjab’s male and female athletes during the 2-week camp training and we are quite upbeat the Punjab contingent will offer satisfactory performance in the 35th edition of National Games being organized at Karachi from May 1 to 9. DG Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry said this on Saturday.
Sports Board Punjab’s selection committee, on the 4th day of trials, has conducted boxing trials at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Contact Body Center on Saturday. More than 100 male and female boxers from all divisions of the province participated in the boxing trials. The boys’ trials were conducted in 10 weight categories while the female athletes appeared in trials in eight weight categories.
Khizar Afzaal said that Sports Board Punjab’s selection committees are conducting trials of Punjab’s all teams in a transparent manner and selecting the best athletes purely on merit. “The training camps will be set up for National Games from April 14. All the arrangements for Punjab’s 2-week training camps have been completed and that best facilities will be provided to players during the training camps.” Meanwhile, Director Admin Dr M Kaleem while chairing an important meeting at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday reviewed the preparations for holding Punjab athletes’ training camps for upcoming 35th National Games in a befitting manner.
The meeting was attended by Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum, Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Yasmeen Akhtar and all administrators of Nishtar Park Sports Complex. All administrators of Nishtar Park Sports Complex presented their reports regarding cleanliness and other arrangements in the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Dr Kaleem said that after the completion of trials, all the selected male and female athletes from all divisions of the province will reach Lahore on April 13 (today) for their participation in training camps. He directed all the administrators of Nishtar Park Sports Complex to make best cleanliness, drinking water and residence arrangements for Punjab’s all male and female participants of training camps.
