ISLAMABAD: In the light of federal cabinet’s rightsizing decision, a major step has been taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The ministry has abolished 1,232 posts of its subsidiary PTV. The total approved posts of PTV from Grade 4 to 20 are 4,636. Out of these, 1,789 are vacant.
Sixty of vacant posts — 1,232 posts — have been abolished as per decision of the cabinet. In addition, 729 posts have been declared dying, increasing the number to 1,961 posts abolished.
The federal cabinet had ordered all the federal institutions to abolish 60 percent of the vacant posts. Among the posts abolished are four posts of Grade-20 — controller engineering, controller revenue, controller finance and development, etc.
Seven posts of Grade-19 have been abolished including design manager and deputy controller engineering, while 21 posts of Grade-18 abolished include script editor, assistant controller censor board, assistant controller engineering, engineer in-charge, senior boiler engineer and public relations officer.
The 323 posts of Grade-17 abolished include assistant accounts officer, chief inspector, air conditioning engineer, electrical engineer, boiler engineer, senior store officer, senior automobile and diesel engineer, quantity surveyor, personnel officer, designer, producer, presentation officer, planning officer, news producer/reporter, research officer, reference officer, chief inspector, etc.
The lower-level posts which have been abolished include calligrapher, assistant film editor, TV technician, supervisor, storekeeper, senior inspector, assistant makeup artist, store clerk, Urdu typist, driver, cleaner, cook, gardener and naib qasid.
