CM approves Rs1bn for construction of underpass under Korangi Causeway Bridge
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday presided over a meeting to review the ongoing construction of the Korangi Causeway Bridge, Shahrah-e-Bhutto additional works and explore a solution to the traffic issue at Sohrab Goth.
The CM also allocated Rs1 billion to construct the underpass directing traffic from Korangi Causeway and CBM Road as well as to improve the roadway geometry to accommodate traffic from multiple directions. He approved the proposed design for a centralised roundabout, which would be further refined according to site conditions.
Held at the CM House, the meeting was attended by Sindh Senior Minister for Transport and Information Sharjeel Inam Memon, Planning & Development Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Special Assistant to the CM Qasim Naveed, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, Planning & Development Board Chairman Najam Shah, Local Government Secretary Khalid Haider Shah, Karachi Additional IG Javed Alam Odho, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Shahrah-e-Bhutto Project Director Niaz Soomro and others.
Ghani presented a briefing on the Korangi Causeway project, which is estimated to cost Rs 9.3 billion. The briefing noted that the construction of the bridge and its associated loops was currently under way, and development at the 3000 Korangi Road intersection was also part of this project.
Regarding Shahrah-e-Bhutto, the CM approved the technical clearance for a flyover near Sammo Goth, along with other connecting roads. He instructed the planning and development department to finalise the necessary approvals within a week and begin construction immediately.
Concerning the traffic congestion at Sohrab Goth, the CM directed the planning and development department to devise a solution that includes remodelling the roundabout and improving the access roads from the Lyari Expressway, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan Chowrangi and nearby connections.
Murad directed the planning & development and local government departments to work together and submit to him a detailed plan along with a design structure so that a decision could be taken accordingly.
