HYDERABAD: The Tail-end Abadgar Welfare Association of Nara Canal organised a rally in Mirpurkhas, as well as a demonstration, against the controversial project to build six canals on the Indus River.

Leading the rally were farmers’ leaders Professor Yousuf Rajput, Naseer Ahmed, Mir Ejaz Talpur, Faqeer Aurangzeb Laghari and others.

Addressing the rally participants, they said the rulers, by following anti-Sindh policies, were adamant on drawing six new canals from the Indus River, which would render Sindh barren.

They added that Sindh’s agriculture is already on the brink of collapse due to water shortages, low crop prices, and reduced yields, while growers, farmers, traders, and the entire population of Sindh are suffering immensely.

The leaders demanded the immediate cancellation of the canals project and called for Sindh to be given its rightful share of water.

The rally was held from the Railway Crossing to Muhammadi Chowk in Mirpurkhas in response to a call by the Youth Committee of Digri, protesting against the six canals project. A sit-in demonstration was also staged as part of the protest.

They emphasized that aware youth, lawyers, writers, intellectuals, farmers, labourers, and daughters of Sindh are peacefully protesting across the region to reclaim the flow of their river.

A large number of youths from various communities of the city, along with social leaders, participated in the rally.
