SHO jailed and fined for contempt of court
PESHAWAR: Additional District and Sessions Judge Talah Muhammad sentenced the Station House Officer (SHO) of Hayatabad Police Station to one month in jail and fined him Rs 1,000 for repeatedly ignoring court orders, holding him in contempt of court
The court proceedings were held on a contempt petition filed against the SHO Hayatabad for non-compliance with court orders.During the hearing, the court found SHO Tariq Khan guilty of contempt and announced the sentence accordingly.
Judge Talah Muhammad also issued a written verdict, stating that the petitioner, Saqib Ali’s vehicle had been taken into police custody in connection with a narcotics case in 2015.In 2019, the court had ordered the vehicle to be returned to the petitioner on superdari (temporary custody), but despite the court’s orders, the vehicle was never returned.
Following this non-compliance, the petitioner filed a contempt of court petition.During the hearing, contempt was proven, and the SHO was found guilty. The judgment ordered that the SHO be taken into custody and shifted to Central Jail.Furthermore, the court directed the Capital City Police Officer and SSP Operations Peshawar to recover the petitioner’s vehicle and submit a report to the court within 10 days.
